Earth move bad

We just had a “moderate” earthquake here in Southern California. 5.8 they are saying, and much closer to LA than here, but my office walls sure moved!

Not having grown up here, I will fully admit to being a total wimp when the earth moves. It’s like the most primitive part of my brain yells “earth…move…bad” when it happens. And my adrenaline spikes enough to get a metallic taste in my mouth.

My husband, a native, thinks they’re fun. Go fig.

This is just another case of how the unexpected can and will happen. Make sure you protect your business financially (can you say “insurance”?) for the risks in your area.

  1. i think they are kinda fun too…I am a native too. Give me a earthquake over a tornado or hurricane anyday!

  2. Locals always seem to say that! 🙂
Us Midwesterners will take the tornadoes over the earthquakes pretty much every time. I guess it’s just what you know/are used to.

  3. I just so happened to be listening to your newest podcast when we felt it here in Simi Valley. I recently moved here from Texas back in March, so it was definitely an experience.

Having been in some really bad storms and close calls with tornadoes, I’ll have to agree with andie. It’s much easier to get away from falling objects than it is to dodge the entire world coming at you at 300mph.

  4. I used to live in Mexico City when the big 1985 earthquake destroyed many parts of the city. If you are in a old bulding or house it can be sacary.

Best is to relax and walk outside.

  5. Leslie-

It takes a while, but you’ll get use to the shakin’. Not a big deal.

To see a tornado coming versus, it just happens, I prefer the, it just happens.
