Vincent Laforet wrote a very interesting piece that is on sportsshooter.com. It’s not just for the sports folks, by any means. He brings up some very important issues about how the photo industry has changed, is changing, and makes some suggestions for using that to the photographer’s advantage. It’s very much worth the read.

I just found this article on micro-patronage: http://www.kk.org/thetechnium/archives/2008/03/1000_true_fans.php
While the article targets fine art and performance aritsts, I think you would have some interesting things to say about how this applies to targeted marketing systems, and the math becomes far easier to understand for the dubious-minded.
This article proves that Vince is not only one of our finest photojournalist but also a very perceptive thinker about the industry. I think he is spot on with his comments and insights. Thanks to Leslie for being the web octopus in grabbing the best of the best.
Glad to read that Vince belives wedding photography has a future.
When I decided to photograph weddings I did so for two reasons: I love the rush of working your ass of for 6-8 hours and then producing “the story” in an album that is durable and well loved by my clients. Second, brides have budgets… frequently money provided by someone else, and they are going to spend it. They understand the value of what we are doing, and they want the final product “in print.”
