  1. Hey Leslie. Huge thanks for this info. My friend just called baffled after loosing his desktop files. Your e-mail came in just in time to identify the problem. Do you know if Quicken is buggy? I use Quicken 3-4 times a day sometimes and haven’t launched it yet today.. I’m afraid to.

  2. So far all I can find is QuickBooks-related. Keep your fingers crossed and backup ALL your data files, just in case! —Leslie

  3. I’d love to have an alternative to Quickbooks. It’s like they just made a crappy version for OSX so us mac users would shut up. The whole Quickbooks system is not even liked by my accountant. She says it stinks compared to the Windows version and now we find that it can erase our data. Thanks Intuit!

  4. Crap on a stick, J.! I’m sorry you got stuck by this. Stop using the affected computer, though, if you can. You MAY be able to recover the files, but only if they don’t get written over which can happen if you keep using the machine.

For others (and J.), consider switching to MYOB. If your system is simple, iBank (IGG software) may work for you but it’s not very powerful/complex.

  5. If you’re looking for a QuickBooks alternative, permit me to recommend MYOB. It comes in Mac and PC versions, and, IMHO, is much easier for creatives to wrap the brain around.

My (now retired) accountant said that she wouldn’t work with me unless I switched from QuickBooks to MYOB. Truth be told, I absolutely hated the first two days of working with MYOB, as data entry was not my idea of a good time.

On the third day, I was mining the data. And that was something I’d never done before. I was hooked. Still am.
