Thanks for your patience

…the new Creative Lube is up. Get it here or on iTunes (free, but donations are happily accepted). This one is on failing…and no, it is not a downer.

I really appreciate your patience. Between law school and moving onto a new MacBook, getting this one done took longer than usual. My bad!

  1. What a GREAT podcast! I’ve recently taken a part-time job. I wasn’t going to take just anything. It HAD to be photography related (and I’m not talking about selling cameras in the mall). So two weeks ago I took a job teaching digital photography at a Scottsdale high school. Last week was my first full week of teaching and my goal is simply to make the students more visually aware and to have fun. And the biggest lesson of the week was about Failure! Throughout the week I kept hammering the point and tomorrow we get to revisit the idea as we edit images and look for their successes.

Coincidentally, after I left the news biz, I went back to school full time. I found myself taking 5-credit math classes that made me feel as if my brain had grown. At the time I was 45 and older than the professors. I started a study group and did every bit of homework. Sadly, I failed my second algebra class, but the next time around I was able to replace the grade with an “A.”

The next semester and a higher level of math I thought I was going to fail again, but after taking the Final I ended up with a “B”! In the end, I was able to see beyond the numbers and formulas, I was able to see parallels between math and a spiritual realm (which I won’t get into here), and oddly enough I walked away with a fine art nude project that involved math and I hired the math professor to calculate the equations (It’s kind of complicated, so if you want to know more, contact me).

There’s a kid in my photography class who has taught me something important: The only time you really fail is when you don’t even try.
