Here’s how I handle planning and measurement in my design/photo studio:
Business Planning, Promotion, and Tracking Tools
1. Previous year’s annual report (in 5 “best moves/worst moves of the year” format)
2. Current year’s budget with assumptions
3. Current year’s promotion plan with goals
4. Business-Building Tools Tracker to monitor promo plan progress. This is an Excel spreadsheet that I created. Each business week gets its own Tracker worksheet.
Monthly Business Checkup
1. YTD P/L vs. budget
2. YTD P/L vs. previous year
3. Check registers (for expenditure scrutiny and cash flow)
4. Checking the bank/credit union balances (for adequate funds)
5. Forecasting the next month’s anticipated income and sources
6. Forecasting the next month’s anticipated expenditures
Hope this helps!
