I have said no in the past it ended up biting me in the ass. That client never called again and continued calling the person I recommended. The original call was for a food shot which I truly want nothing to do with, but this client has many types of projects i would be suitable for. While this happened a million years ago it’s hard to forget.
The truth is unless you are in a major market, 90% of the jobs can be shot be 90% of the photographers. Not my quote, but from a very experienced AD.
At the moment I’m in the middle of reinventing myself and developing a new style so I’m not in the 90% but it’s a pressure I think most of the market feels.
OTOH, I’ve said yes to clients that I would have been better off without.
