Not everything sucks

I complain a lot about living in SoCal. There’s a lot to complain about. Prices, traffic, earthquakes, snobbism…lots.

Today was one of those days, though, when you understand the emotional Kool-Aid of this place. Toady, Super Bowl Sunday, it was 80 (maybe more) and sunny. We spent the afternoon walking the beach and driving the 101, in a Miata, with the top down, from Del Mar to Mission Beach.

It was glorious.

Still, some people are friggin’ nuts. There were people in the water…not just the usual surfers in their winter wetsuits but regular folk in bathing suits.

The water was around 57 degrees F.

I *think* that the people playing in the surf must have been tourists. Even the locals aren’t that crazy. Sure, they may put on their bikinis and sit on the sand, but get in the water? Hell no.

But today wasn’t about all the other people. It was about the smooth rocks in the sand, the sun, and the dolphins playng in the surf.

Perfect.
