Cold? C’mon…

The storm I mentioned in my last post has gone through here now, which means that the temperatures have dropped a bit. Last night when I went to bed, it was that good chilly that makes getting under the covers so pleasant. Good sleeping weather, as they say.

This morning dawned not quite as rainy and still cool…at least cool for here. Right now, at 7:36AM, it’s 61°F and actually not raining, though the weather people are saying we’ll have a few more showers.

I noticed, earlier, as I did my exercises in front of the morning news, that a couple of the local reporters had on rather heavy-looking coats while they were doing their live shots in Mission Valley, just down the hill from here. I hadn’t noticed it being particularly chilly when I let the cats out before 6AM…cool, yes, and refreshing, but not cold by any means. In fact, I left the back door ajar just as I usually do so the cats can come and go as they please. No big deal.

Anyway, about 10 minutes ago, I went out front to drag the garbage can to the street for its weekly pick-up. While out there, I saw one of our young female neighbors on her way out to work. She was wearing a knit cap—like a winter cap. I thought she was wearing it to be trendy, in that sort of post-grunge “fashion” you see occasionally. I’ve never cared for that “style” but who am I to judge. I thought, “She’s young and probably hasn’t figured out that she’d look better without that silly thing on her head,” and went on with what I was doing.

Then I noticed that she also had on matching knit gloves. And a warm coat. And in my not-yet-fully-caffeinated brain the picture became clear: she was dressed against the frigid cold of an October morning in San Diego.
